Types of Books
Genre of books refers to the classification that a book falls into and what type of reading material that it serves.
Sub-types of all types of literature are categorized in different ways depending on their purpose, genre, theme, and audience. While there are many sub-types of novels and non-fiction books, there is actually no fixed definition for the term ‘genre’. For this reason, sub-types of this type of literature differ in terms of content, theme, message, form, writing style, authorship, characters, and popularity.
Book Genres
General Fiction
General fiction refers to books that are fictional in nature and contain no specific story, characters, plot lines, or any other elements that have been developed from the author’s original idea. General fiction has an unlimited number of subtypes, but some of them may be similar in nature, while others may be quite different.
Non-Fiction
Non-fiction books generally contain the writer’s original ideas, research and analysis, but they are usually presented in a manner that allows readers to easily understand the information provided in it. There is a wide variety of subtypes of non-fiction books, but the most common subtype of this genre includes biographies, novels, memoirs, and other non-fiction works. The most popular genre of non-fiction books is the academic, which include theses, dissertations, essays, journal articles, reports, and many more types.
Litigation and Legal Non-fiction
The literary type of this genre of non-fiction books primarily consists of a collection of short stories and novels which deal with issues in litigation and legal matters. The most common subtypes of this type of literature include memoirs and other short stories, novels and biographies.
Non-fiction also contains non-fiction books that contain historical facts, while fiction books are purely fictional and are not based on actual events or people. Some of the popular subtypes of this type of literature include thrillers, crime fiction, and romance novels. Although there are many subtypes of non-fiction books, there are also many genres of fiction that fall under this category.
Fiction
Fiction can include anything from a novel to a short story to a poem. Fiction may consist of the works of literature from the classical era, or it may also be composed of the works of contemporary authors. While there are many types of fiction and non-fiction literature available today, the best place to check for information on what type of literature to read is probably on the Internet. Here, there are many books that provide detailed descriptions of the different sub-types of literature, including their main types.
